For Immediate Release
the People Bookshelf Grant
Both Dorchester County Library
branches have been awarded "We the People" Bookshelf
Grants. The grant is funded by the National
Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in collaboration with
the American Library Association (ALA). Four
thousand school and public libraries were awarded the
grant this year. It is part of the NEH "We the
People" program that is designed to encourage and
enhance the teaching, study and understanding of
American history, culture and democratic principles.
Each year the NEH identifies a
theme that is important to our national heritage.
All titles selected for the Bookshelf embody the theme
and are appropriate for young readers from Kindergarten
through high school. This year's theme is "A More
Perfect Union." The Bookshelf includes 19 books
and 1 DVD set. They are now on display at both
branches for patrons to browse and check out.
Check the library's website (www.dcl.lib.sc.us)

programs coming this fall.
