For Immediate Release
December 21, 2011
Construction is in full swing
on the addition to the McMahan Headquarters Library in
St George. The structural steel is up. The
construction crew is backfilling and compacting around
the foundation brickwork. Once this is complete the
building slab will be poured. As progress on the
building expansion continues, renovation of the existing
building will start. The project manager anticipates
renovations to start mid-January. In order to renovate
the current library building, staff must move to a
temporary location. Dorchester County is allowing the
library to move into the old courthouse for the duration
of the renovation project. The address is 101 Ridge
Street. The temporary facility is not large so the
majority of the St. George collection will be placed in
storage. The bookmobile will be used to provide
additional space for library materials which takes it
off the road until the library moves back into its
renovated facility. There will also be some changes in
library service while the library is in its temporary
11-22 the St George facility is closed to move.
